Dear Tibetan Community members,
Tashi Deleg!
My fellow colleagues and I were elected on the TCB Council on 5th September 2014 to serve our community over a two-year period, which is soon coming to an end.
At the recent Council meeting, we discussed the merits and decided to call the TCB Council election on 2nd July by taking the opportunity of probably the largest members’ gathering to celebrate His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 81st Birthday in London.
This decision is considered with the view of increasing a greater participation amongst TCB members nationwide in the democratic election of our Community Leaders (known as Council Members), who are given mandate to manage our community affairs over a two-year period (September 2016 to September 2018). We all remember that His Holiness the Dalai Lama gave ‘mangtso’ or democracy to the Tibetan people over fifty years ago. So, we really hope that our community members would take His Holiness’ amazing gift by actively taking part in the forthcoming Council election whilst celebrating our Spiritual Leader’s 81st Birthday on 2nd July!
After the official announcement during the Kundun Trungkar celebration, members can then cast their votes until 10.00 pm at Sir James Hawkey Hall, Broomhill Road, Woodford, Essex IG8 0BG. Ballot papers / box will be made available at the venue.
Postal Voting:
For those who are unable to come to our Kundun Trungkar celebration on 2nd July but wish to take part in the TCB Council election, then please get in touch with us as soon as possible so that we can send you the ballot papers through postal voting.
Voting Count / Results Announcement:
- The Votes are counted on Sunday, 3rd July at Tibet House, 1 Culworth Street, London NW8 7AF from 1pm to 4pm.
- The results will be announced at Jamyang Buddhist Centre, The Old Courthouse, 43 Renfrew Road, London SE11 4NA on Sunday, 3rd July at 8pm after our planned Community Prayer Meeting.
- All members are requested & welcome to witness the vote counts / official results.
As this is our first announcement on the important subject, we encourage volunteer nominations to serve on the Council (September 2016 to September 2018) to take our community forward and to the next level. We will be happily mail out volunteer nominations to our members for their consideration in due course. We will also provide platforms (for introduction) to those, who wish to stand in the forthcoming Council election on 2nd July.
Please do note that the current six Council members are not seeking seats in the next Council.
So, please ensure you choose seven NEW candidates with their full names to serve in the next TCB Council. If you have any query, please do get in touch with me or my colleagues.
With best wishes,
Tsering Passang
Chairman / On behalf of TCB Council
